PDO Thread Lifts FAQ’s

The threads used are made of Polydioxanone (PDO), once applied they are absorbed by the body following stimulation of fibroblasts that in turn produces collagen. Polydioxanone has been used in plastic and reconstructive and cardiac surgery for over 30 years.

It consists of strong synthetic fibre and depending on its strength and thickness will dissolve over a period of time.

As we age, fibroblast activity (responsible for collagen production) slows down unless.  Clinical evidence has shown the fibroblasts are triggered into action when the body needs to heal ie in injury etc. by causing a controlled injury we utilising the body’s healing mechanism to regenerate collagen from the deeper layers of the dermis stimulating fibroblast and creating collagen. The threads are strategically placed and fibrous strands of collagen will form a structure to further support, sculpt and firm the area treated.

Topical anaesthetic cream is used to numb the surface of the skin and local anaesthetic is used to numb the area of injection and placement.  It is a painless procedure however, patients report a strange sensation when first applying the thread due to slight pressure.

The threads will help treat skin laxity, jowls, fine lines, wrinkles. They provide a gentle lift and tightening helping improve condition of the skin creating a more youthful appearance.

Treatment has been shown to last approx 18 months or longer depending on the type and quantity of threads used.  It may be of benefit to discuss a maintenance treatment at 12 months.
