Skin Needling & Mesotherapy FAQ’s
How does it work?
Any injury to the skin causing a wound will trigger a natural healing response and cells will be stimulated to create new, collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid which in turn repairs the wound. The repair assists the skin to function more effectively leading to healthier skin in both appearance and texture.
What can it be used to treat?
- Open pores
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin laxity
- Superficial pigmentation
- Scarring
- Stretch marks
- Dull, tired skin
- Tightening of the skin
- Skin rejuvenation
Does it Hurt?
Patients do say it is not a painful treatment; however to ensure your comfort at Coastal Skinthetics we do apply a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the skin prior to treatment.
Before Treatment
All make up will need to be removed prior to treatment, so please come ‘fresh faced’ if possible. Alcohol, aspirin, Ibuprofen and a range of dietary supplements including; St. Johns Wort, fish oils, Gingko Biloba, Vitamins C and E- may all contribute to bruising and are best avoided 24 hours before treatment. Treatment cannot be administered if there is an active skin infection, including acne or cold sores or if you are unwell- including colds, coughs, sore throats etc. Do contact the clinic to discuss any illness or new medicines prior to attending.
What can I expect after Treatment?
Skin will feel tight and will be red for several hours after treatment. It can be pink and feel like mild sunburn for 2-4 days after. Many patients note a healthier looking skin immediately after treatment however it may take several weeks to improve as collagen remodeling can take time. You may require several treatments depending on the symptoms treated and your desired outcome. Dryness and flaking of the skin may be apparent as a natural response of the skins exfoliation process.
How Long will it Last?
The optimum result depending on the indications for treatment may be 3- 6 months after your treatment. If a course of treatments is required these will be at 4-6 week intervals. Most report an improvement after the first two weeks stating the skin looks and feels smoother, softer and fresher. It is advisable that a maintenance treatment will assist in longevity of the results. Skin quality continues to improve for up to 9 months after completion of treatment. We recommend having an assessment at 6 months post completion when Tracy Cullen, Coastal Skinthetics Specialist nurse will assess your skin and if required design a program based on your individual needs.
Is it Safe?
When the appropriate device is used and in medically trained hands this treatment is considered very safe. It is a controlled injury which causes only micro fine needle injury to the skin and the natural healing process is triggered using this method.
Am I suitable for Treatment?
Tracy will take a detailed medical history to ensure you have no conditions that may increase risk of unwanted side effects, consultation is important to discuss your expectations if this treatment will meet them.
It is not suitable for use on keloid scarring, cardiac abnormalities, vascular disease or for use whilst pregnant.
